The Island Savoyards
The company was formed in 1971 primarily to perform Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado” to fill a void at the time on the Island in this particular field of operetta. The first production was such a success it was decided to continue and since then the company has gone from strength to strength.
Nowadays, shows of all types are performed, not just the Savoy Operas but of composers such as Lehar, Strauss, Rodgers & Hammerstein to name but a few. Over recent years, Disney’s epic “Beauty and the Beast” has joined the company’s success story, coupled with a production of “Titanic” marking the event’s 100th anniversary in 2012. In the spring of 2013, “The Sound of Music” raised the company’s profile even further.
