Look out – ‘Shrek’ is coming to a swamp – I mean theatre – near you!
Yes, the famous green ogre will be visiting Shanklin Theatre from 25th – 29th October courtesy of The Island Savoyards. Fresh from the sell-out success of ‘The Sound of Music’ in April, this well-known and much respected musical theatre group are now playing host to the smelly, swamp-dwelling unlikely hero Shrek. With all the wonderful and hilarious characters you will remember from the ‘Shrek’ films brought to life as a stage musical, this is the ideal half term family treat.

The show brings together many talented actors and creatives who have contributed to the success of past Savoyard productions: the two leading roles are played by Luke Cumberpatch and Emily Scotcher who teamed up so well in ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, and Musical Director Andrew Woodford has provided the accompaniment to so many wonderful shows. Jake Alabaster is back as choreographer, having taken part in several shows on and back-stage.
The group also welcomes some newcomers to its ranks: it is director Sarah Scotcher’s Savoyards debut – although she brings years of experience acting and directing for WightStrollers among other groups. With a background in professional dance, Maurice Kachuk takes on his first creative role for the ‘Savs’ as tap dance choreographer, having appeared (and danced!) as Max in ‘the Sound of Music’.
Beautiful Princess Fiona; the hilariously well-meaning and kind-hearted donkey; Lord Farquaad, ruler of Duroc, whose ego is several times bigger than he is and of course Shrek himself are joined by a plethora of fairy-tale characters supported, in true Savoyard fashion, by a large ensemble cast, full professional live orchestra and professionally designed set.

This half term, treat the family to a show that will please everyone from age 4 to 104! Performances are at 7.30pm on October 25th, 26, 27th and 28th, with 2.30pm matinees on 28th and 29th. Tickets are selling quickly, so snap yours up now by visiting Shanklin Theatre box office in person, calling 01983 869000 or online at www.shanklintheatre.com
