The Walkern Witch is a new play, being presented as a rehearsed reading at Newport’s Apollo Theatre on the 18th of November. Doors open at 7 and the reading commences at 7.30pm.
Developed by the Apollo’s Gateway Club, it uses contemporary documents, folk songs and a good pinch of gallows humour, to tell the true story of Jane Wenham, who was sentenced to death in 1712.
In keeping with the Gateway Club’s open-house policy, the cast includes a mixture of seasoned performers, along with some who are setting foot on stage for the first time.
The bar will be open before and after the show, which lasts for just under an hour.
This is a free event in aid of Independent Arts, but tickets must be booked in advance. (Please see Apollo website for more details.)
