PREVIEW: ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ – Apollo Players

‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ opens at the Apollo Theatre, Newport, Isle of Wight on Friday 12 July.

The play is a celebrated modern adaptation by Laura Eason of Jules Verne’s classic adventure story.

Although first published in 1872 the tale has lost none of its excitement. 66 characters, 11 actors, trains, boats, fights, dances, a storm, a circus act and an elephant take centre stage as the
mysterious and fabulously wealthy Phileas Fogg wagers his life’s fortune that he can circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days. Join him and his loyal valet Passepartout, as they voyage from the misty alleys of Victorian London, across the subcontinent and on to the Wild West in a race against the clock. Will they make it back to London in time? Or will a world of trouble mean the bet is lost? And, having seen the whole world, can Fogg find his own heart?

Directors Amy and Dan Burns face their biggest challenge yet: Jules Verne’s epic tale of Victorian eccentricity, romance and derring-do brought to the stage in a production that’s fast-moving, entertaining and theatrical, full of action and colour. ‘Around the World in Eighty Days’ is an imaginative, high-spirited escapade for all the family.

You can catch the show on 12-20 July (not Sunday or Monday). Book online at www.apollo-theatre.org.uk or ring the box office on (01983) 210010.
