PREVIEW: ‘Annie’ – The Island Savoyards

After dazzling audiences earlier this year with the spectacle of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this accomplished company is back at Shanklin Theatre this October with another family favourite — the beloved musical Annie. Known for their high production values, sharp attention to detail, and clear love for the craft, the Island Savoyards have built a reputation for delivering shows that are as professional as they are heartfelt.

It’s clear that Annie has been a true labour of love. Cast and creatives alike have poured their energy, imagination, and humour into every rehearsal, creating a show that captures the charm of this timeless story while adding their own flair. It’s a production that promises warmth, laughter, and a real sense of joy — the kind that can only come from a team that genuinely enjoys what they do.

At the heart of this show are two extraordinary young performers sharing the title role and both of these talented girls have risen to the challenge with remarkable maturity. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and boundless energy have impressed everyone involved. Each brings something special to the role: a spark of courage, a flash of humour, and a big dose of heart. They truly embody the spirit of the little red-headed orphan who refuses to give up hope.

Set in 1930s New York, Annie follows the journey of an optimistic young girl growing up in the hard-knock world of Miss Hannigan’s grimy orphanage. When she’s unexpectedly chosen to spend Christmas with billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks, Annie’s world turns upside down. What begins as a publicity stunt soon becomes something far more genuine, as Annie’s warmth and determination melt even Warbucks’ cold exterior. Along the way, audiences meet a host of unforgettable characters — from the scheming Miss Hannigan, her shady brother Rooster, and his partner Lily St. Regis, to the ever-graceful Grace Farrell, who helps bring Annie’s story full circle.

With iconic songs including “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “Maybe,” and of course “Tomorrow,” the musical delivers a perfect mix of comedy, emotion, and timeless melody. It’s a story about hope in dark times, about finding family in unexpected places, and about believing that brighter days are always ahead.

From what’s been glimpsed in rehearsals, this production of Annie promises a feast of music, dance, and heart. The choreography sparkles, the vocals soar, and the attention to detail — from costume to character — is everything audiences have come to expect from The Savoyards. Once again, they’ve proved that creating magic on stage is something they do best.

With a show full of laughter, love, and those unforgettable tunes, Annie looks set to be another triumph. And just as Annie reminds us — no matter how hard the knocks, the sun’ll come out Tomorrow

Annie comes to Shanklin Theatre from Wednesday 22nd to Sunday 26th October. Book your tickets now at The Island Savoyards Presents Annie – Shanklin Theatre or call the Box Office on 01983 868000.
