NEWS: ‘Carols and Mince Pies’ – GASP

For the last four years Bembridge Village Hall has been packed to the rafters for what many people feel is the real start to the festive season – Carols and Mince Pies, courtesy of GASP (Gilbert and Sullivan Productions). Those who have seen GASP’s Gilbert and Sullivan shows, this year’s being The Sorcerer, will know the company has some incredibly gifted singers, and it is always a treat to hear them turn their talents to Christmas music, old and new, familiar and less well known. You might recognise one of the songs – Ring Forth Ye Bells – from our September production.

This year’s afternoon of Christmas music is at 2.30pm on Sunday 14th December, again at Bembridge Village Hall, when you are warmly invited to join the choir of GASP to sing some favourite Christmas carols, along with being treated to some beautiful solo and choral pieces, and a few short readings, all with a festive feel. Sing with us as we enjoy traditional Christmas carols such as We Three Kings, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and In the Bleak Midwinter, and listen as some of the best voices on the Island treat you to O Holy Night, I’ll Be Home for Christmas and more.

To add to the atmosphere the bar will be serving traditional hot mulled wine and mince pies – as well as tea and coffee. The hall will have been decorated by members of GASP – the decorations will remain in place for other Christmas events in the hall – so everything is set for a cosy Christmassy afternoon of music and fun.

Whether it’s cold and snowy or (more likely) rainy and windy, come into a warm Village Hall for the afternoon; forget the gifts still to buy and wrap; the baking to be done; the Christmas shopping list and preparations  – and enter into the real spirit of Christmas: sharing music, joy and friendship – oh, and mulled wine and mince pies of course!
