It was lovely to see so many people in East Cowes Town Hall to support the younger members of TheatreTrain as they performed Disney’s Frozen Jr. I saw the Saturday cast; however, I’m sure the Sunday performances will be just as well received.
With a video projection on the back wall to establish our setting and add to the atmosphere, the ensemble were in good voice right from the start as they introduced us to the King and Queen of Arendelle, played by Anna and Minnie, and their two young daughters Elsa (Adeline) and Anna (Sophia): the two young versions of our lead roles sang beautifully and were a great introduction to the familiar story.
Quickly however, Sienna and Naeve took the stage as the adult versions of the two sisters. Sienna was perfectly cast, with a strong singing voice and stage presence, while Naeve’s voice and movement created a feisty Anna who dominated the stage.

Willam was also well cast as Hans, with his ability to seem the romantic hero and then show the other side to his character. The real hero, Kristoff, was played wonderfully by Nora, and I particularly enjoyed the antics – and singing – of Daisy as Sven the reindeer. I won’t spoil it for those still to see the show, but the presentation of both Sven and Olaf the Snowman, a lovely performance by Hayden, were very cleverly contrived.
The smaller roles supported the main cast well, and each had their turn in the spotlight: Poppy as Oaken; Florence as Pabbie; Ffion as Bulda; Grace as the Bishop; Isobelle as Middle Anna and Alana as Wesleton – all contributed to a feelgood show, as did the background singers and dancers who portrayed ice maidens, ‘hidden folk’, townspeople and so on.
The hour-long adaptation of this Disney favourite was a perfect introduction to live stage theatre not just for the youngsters on stage but for the younger audience members. Given that none of these performers are yet in their teens, the cast can be very proud of what they have achieved, as can the Production Team and everyone involved in Frozen Jr.
