The Wight Strollers are back following the success of their February pantomime, this time with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical, and they are staging this ‘tale as old as time’ in aid of Island charities and good causes.
The company’s donations to Island charities total over £250,000 since 1980, including sixteen Public Access Defibrillators, and they hope to raise more with this production.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, the musical includes all the enchanting original songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, such as ‘Be Our Guest’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’, alongside new songs by Alen Menken and Tim Rice, including ‘Home’ and ‘If I Can’t Love Her’.
The story follows Belle, a girl who dreams of adventure, and the Beast, a prince cursed in his youth, two outsiders who through each other find acceptance, love and a happily-ever after. Whether you’re seeing it for the first time or the fiftieth this is a tale and a show set to delight all ages.
Directed by Sarah Scotcher, with Musical Director Kim Ball and Choreographers Cheryl and Izzi Rudd, the team that brought you Sweet Charity, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert – The Musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and many sell-out pantomimes, this will be a visual and vocal treat.
The show features a live orchestra, fabulous sets built in-house, and gorgeous costumes, and a cast of over forty Strollers bringing these beloved characters to life.
Starring in the show are a host of names well-known in Island theatre, including Emily Scotcher as Belle, Andy Kay as Beast, Si Lynch as Gaston, Rob Bingham as Lefou, Simon Apsey as Lumiere, Michael Mullin as Cogsworth, Elisa Jones as Mrs Potts, Izzi Rudd as Babette and Rebecca Finch as Madame de la Grande Bouche. The role of Chip is shared between young performers Alice Hooper and Maisie Walker-Green.
