“Sun came up on a beautiful day ” from the song “Bring on Tomorrow” summed up this production of Fame Jr. by the pupils of The Bay CE School. 

So many fine performances from the main cast were complimented by the energy of the ensemble; because of lack of room on the main stage they danced and sang down the side of the audience. I loved this aspect. 

The story of Fame centres around the lives of the students at a performing arts school. It covers the progress of the students over the course of a few years. 

Rebecca M, Eloise B, Rosie-Mae H. and Jacob E carried off their roles as the teachers with confidence.  

Mary S portrayed the student Carmen Diaz who left the Arts School after the second year to follow her dream and become famous.  Mary was excellent with great stage presence and a fabulous singing voice. 

She worked well with Jessie H playing musician Schlomo Metzenbaum who wrote the music that Carmen put lyrics too. Their interaction was very good. 

The other main cast members, Scarlet W, Harriet J, Martha K, Daisy H, Mason G, Dylan C, Lana G and Abigail F gave assured performances. 

The show was directed by Mr J Alabaster who also assisted Harriet J, Scarlet W and Martha K with the energetic and lively choreography. Musical Director was by Mr. F. Griffiths. The use of a projector to set the scenes worked well. 

What was obvious with this production was how much the young students enjoyed having the opportunity to be a part of this musical. It was however a shame not all main cast had mikes. Sitting near the back there were  occasions when some words were lost . 

The final song  “Bring on Tomorrow “was dedicated to the character Carmen who was no longer with them. The whole cast sang this with superb harmonies.

Well done everyone for a great show.
