PREVIEW: The Vagina Monologues

A group of ladies involved with a relatively new local WightDASH project, WOW (Women on the Wight), are proud to present the world-famous ‘The Vagina Monologues’ at the Apollo Theatre on 23rd and 24th February. If you have never seen this amazing show, based on real-life experiences of women, now’s your chance. If you have seen it, you’ll probably want to see it again.

This production has been made possible by the V-Day movement which aims to end violence against women and girls across the world. As part of V-Day season, each February Eve Ensler, author of ‘The Vagina Monologues’, kindly waives performance fees for her show providing that it is staged in support of an appropriate charity or organisation. This means that our proceeds can be donated directly towards WightDASH projects, including WOW.

Just a year after opening its doors to all women, WOW now hosts a wide variety of events and activities, ranging from Pilates and mindfulness to art & craft and cooking sessions, alongside hosting support groups of all kinds. Further information can be found on its Facebook page or the website at https://www.wightdash.co.uk/new-index/

Maureen Sullivan, show director, says: I am delighted to be involved with ‘The Vagina Monologues’ to raise funds for such a good cause, and to increase the number of women on the Island who know WOW is there for them – and of course to provide the chance for people to come along and enjoy a cracking show.

‘The Vagina Monologues’ will be staged at 7.30pm on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 February: please note that the Friday performance will be open only to a female audience, while Saturday’s show welcomes all.

Billed as ‘Six women on a mission – to make you laugh…and think…’, it should also be noted that the show included adult language, themes and humour.

Tickets are available via the Apollo Theatre’s website or by popping in to WOW in St James Street, Newport- or just turn up on the night and enjoy the show!!!
